Hoolock Gibbon of Barekuri Village of Tinsukia

It was our birding trip to Muguri Wetland of Tinsukia Last year during December end. Last couple of year we were planning to visits this place during the winter when thousands of birds fly down to this place form other part of the glob to spent the winter. Earlier also I had visited these place but during those visit I was not well equipped with camera gear so this time we planned to spent some more time here. Eventually we were discussing to explore some other photographic sources in and around Maguri wetland.  Apart from our regular boat trip for birding we decided to try our hands in shooting some grassland bird and visiting a nearby village name ‘Barekuri’.

Barekuri is a tropical Assamese village and is a cluster of many small to form the bigger one. Like other village of Upper Assam every household have small tea Gardan in their backyards. Every campus of the village has plenty of different kind of trees making the whole area a paradise for residential woodland birds.  Though bird photography is my main interest and I was already spotting few species such as Grey headed canary flycatcher, scarlet minivet, etc but our interest was different that day.

Our driver cum guide from the resort takes us to some part of the village and there we left our vehicle and start walking in the street of the village to find out the Hoolock Gibbons who lived in this village side by side to the human. Our guide was asking the villagers to locate them but most of the villagers’ responded negative saying they may move deeper into the jungle where we cannot go.  We have already losing our hope as we were approaching mid noon and this is the time they take rest after their morning feeding. But finally we were able to spot a pair of this Gibbon in a backyard. The female one was taking rest in a branch of a tall tree and the male one was still roaming from branch to branch, tree to tree for reason unknown. Finally we have done with some shoots of Hoolock Gibbon to kept in our archive and to share with you all
